Dr. Enrique Gongora - Surgical Director

Dr. Enrique Gongora serves as director of adult heart transplantation and mechanical support at the Memorial Cardiac and Vascular Institute in Hollywood, Florida. Before relocating to Florida, he served the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in a similar capacity. He oversaw heart transplants and other surgical procedures, including arterial coronary grafting and valve replacement, there. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Enrique Gongora taught Drexel University medical students in his role as assistant professor of surgery.

Dr. Enrique Gongora is a member of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation and the American Medical Association. Moreover, he has been certified by the American Board of Surgery and by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. Furthermore, Dr. Gongora is board eligible for surgical critical care under the American Board of Surgery.

Away from his professional responsibilities, Dr. Gongora enjoys reading on the history of surgery and medicine. He is also a traveler, and has previously traveled to Russia to visit Sergei Sukhanov, a vascular surgeon and self-trained cardiac surgeon who has developed a team capable of performing thousands of cardiac operations annually.
