About Dr. Robert Eppley
A veteran knee and shoulder surgeon, California Sports and Orthopaedic Institute President Dr. Robert Eppley maintains offices in Orinda and Berkeley. He and his team of physicians offer patients comprehensive treatments, encompassing diagnostics, physical therapy, and nonsurgical modalities such as ASTYM deep-tissue stimulation and ORTHOVISC injections. Robert Eppley, MD, also performs advanced surgeries on the knees and shoulders, including rotator cuff tendon and AC repairs, patellar ligament reconstruction, and partial and total knee and shoulder replacement.
With approximately 10,000 arthroscopic and open-surgery procedures performed to date, Dr. Robert Eppley has undertaken extensive research in his field. He spoke on the topic “Diagnosis and Treatment of Shoulder Instability” at the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) Sports Medicine Seminar in 1996. The following year, Dr. Eppley co-presented with MLB Oakland Athletics’ Head Athletic Trainer Barry Weinberg on “Pre-Season Conditioning for Pitchers and Throwers.”
For the past two decades, Robert Eppley, MD, has maintained responsibilities with UC Berkeley Athletics as lead orthopaedic surgeon. He provides extensive sideline coverage for the school’s athletic programs, including the Bears football team, and also instructs UC Berkeley trainers. Since 2000, Dr. Eppley has additionally served as Chief of Orthopaedics with UC Berkeley Student Health Services.
Distinguished in his field, Dr. Robert Eppley has earned the Focus Magazine selection as "The Bay Area's Best Doctors" on numerous occasions. He has also received national recognition as "One of the Best Doctors in America" and "Top Doctors in America." Certified through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Robert Eppley, MD, maintains membership in the Arthroscopy Association of America.
