About Dr. Shirley Miles
Dr. Shirley Miles, an educator with extensive experience, holds responsibilities as a senior consultant with Curriculum Focal Point, LLC, a company currently assisting the New Jersey Department of Education and school districts throughout Colorado, in its efforts to improve their education systems. Before accepting her current position, she worked as the director of the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA). DoDEA encompasses an international school system providing instruction to tens of thousands of students throughout the world. Over her tenure with the organization, Dr. Shirley Miles increased student performance, a milestone that had not been achieved in a decade, by implementing a continuous improvement strategy and reorganizing the agency.
Beyond her commitment to education, Dr. Shirley Miles stays active in her local community as a member of the Perfect Peace Baptist Church, through which she volunteers at The Marion House, a soup kitchen, and Care and Share, a group that provides food to homeless shelters. Further, Dr. Miles belongs to such nonprofit organizations as the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the NAACP.

ASCD Annual Conference and Exhibit Show Heads to Houston, Texas

Actively involved in her profession, Dr. Shirley Miles is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, which provides resources and events to facilitate the professional development of teachers and administrators.
On March 21, 2015, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) will host the 70th ASCD Annual Conference and Exhibit Show. The three-day event, which will take place at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, will cater to university professors, superintendents, principals, and other academic professionals. Offering 350 sessions, the conference will include keynote speakers Sarah Lewis and Nicholas Negroponte, who will discuss the impact of innovation and entrepreneurship on education. Best practices in classroom management, teaching strategies, and lesson planning are also on the agenda.
The conference is expected to draw more than 10,000 educational leaders and 300 educational companies. A special performance by musician Peter Yarrow, formerly of the group Peter, Paul, and Mary, is scheduled for the second day of the event.
