Christmas In Russia
During the days of the Soviet Union Christmas was not celebrated much. Now Christmas is celebrated on the 7th of January (few Catholics still celebrate it on December 25th. Russia celebrates Christmas on January 7th because the russian Orthodox church follows the old Julian calendar.
2. Religious Activities Some people fast on Christmas eve until the first star has appeared in the sky then they eat schovio or kutia a porridge made of wheat and rice and served with honey poppy seeds or fruit.
