The Last Supper
On the first day of passover, two of Jesus' disciples asked where they should prepare their passover meal.
Jesus said, 'Go into the city and find a man, and tell him we would like to come to his house for passover'.
So they found a house.
That night, Jesus sat at a long table with his 12 disciples.
While they were eating, he said; "truly, one of you will betray me."
The disciples were confused, and asked him who the one to betray him would be.
Matthew 26:23-24 says:
Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me" But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”
Then Judas said; "Surely you don't mean me, Rabbi?"
Jesus replied; "You have said so."
They continued to eat, and then Jesus took the bread, broke it and gave it to his disciples. He said, "Take this and eat; this is my body."
He then took the cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to his disciples.
27 Each of you drink from it, 28 for this is my blood, which seals the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out to forgive the sins of many. 29 Mark my words -- I will not drink wine again until the day I drink it new with you in my Father's Kingdom."
They all drank from the cup and ate the bread, and this was the first Eucharist.
Christ doing this gave us the ability to celebrate mass today.
