Toussaint was famous for freeing slaves. Toussaint freed the slaves of Haiti in the only permanently. He was the most outstanding black statesman in history. He set up the first legal code for Haiti. Toussaint was born May 20, 1743, in Haiti. He died April 7,1803. He was the leader of Haitian Revolution. His nickname was the black Napoleon. In 1791 he led a huge slave revolt against the French in Hispanola. In 1795 L'Ouverture army helped the French defeat the Spanish.
