“Tearful Drama as Pistorius Says He Panicked”
The world famous disabled athlete, Oscar Pistorious, was trialed in Pretoria, South Africa. It was there that he gave his testimony in which he described in great detail the events that happened on the night he shot and murdered his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. Oscar reported spending a warm evening with his girlfriend before they fell asleep and thing took a devastating turn. Pistorious said, “I thought that a burglar had entered my home. Initially I froze. I didn’t know what to do. The first thing that ran through my mind is that I needed to protect myself,” he said, “that I needed to protect Reeva and I.”
Oscar Pristorious has been accused of premeditated murder after the death of his 29 year old girlfriend. Pistorious reportedly shot her four times through the bathroom door of his house. The prosecution is trying to depict him as an angry and jealous gun fanatic who killed his girlfriend in a spur of anger. In his testimony Pistorious described the events that happened that night. He told the judge he was struck with fear and believed there was an intruder in his house. Oscar claims that he wasn’t wearing his prosthetics and began to scream for the “burglar” to get out of his house. He also screamed for his girlfriend to get down and to call the police. Soon after his screaming was when he fired four bullets. Pistorious claims he wasn’t aware of the possibility that his girlfriend could be the one in the bathroom until after the shots were fired. Pistorious said in his testimony that the moment he entered the bathroom and saw his girlfriend he burst into tears and sobbed uncontrollably. The Judge has adjourned the trial until Wednesday. Oscar Pristorious is facing 25 years in prison if he is charged with premeditated murder.
I found this article to be pretty mindblowing. I never expected a person like him to do something like this. In my heart i want to believe what he’s saying. However, he doesn’t seem very sincere to me. It seems like he is trying to cover up his crime with a story of fear and love. I hope the truth comes out and justice is served whether he is guilty or innocent.
Before reading this article I had heard of the story but i wasn’t aware of all the details. Some questions I would ask would be “If he is a gun fanatic, why didn’t he get proper training?”and “If he was really screaming to his girlfriend to get down and to call the police why didn’t she respond back to him?”.
