East Lawrence Elementary School Newsletter - 7.20.17
Greetings East Lawrence Elementary Family,
I am absolutely thrilled to be the new principal at East Lawrence Elementary! Many of you already know me from my time at East Lawrence High School, but for those who don't, I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Casey Tate, and I am a native of Lawrence County and graduate of Hazlewood High School. I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education in 2002 from the University of North Alabama. I had the privilege to return to Hazlewood to teach at my home school, where I taught 3rd grade and 6th grade. In 2004, I earned a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from UNA, and in 2007, I completed an additional certification in Educational Administration K-12 from UNA. After consolidation closed Hazlewood High School, Hazlewood became a K-8 school, and I taught Middle School Science there for 5th-8th grade. In 2013, I was given the opportunity to come to East Lawrence High School and serve in a new role as Instructional Partner. The following year, I became Assistant Principal of ELHS, where I have served for the last four years. I have come to love this school community, and I am truly honored to still be an Eagle and still have the opportunity to serve the East Lawrence School family.
Some of my most notable achievements include having the highest standardized science test scores in Lawrence County for several consecutive years at Hazlewood, being named the Channel 19 Tools for Teacher winner, and Lawrence County Teacher of the Year. While at ELHS, I was able to be a part of the innovative iLearning Mondays project. I also helped initiate the 12 Days of Giving, a Christmas service project which was huge for our school and community and is something I hope to bring to ELES as well. And just this past year, I was named the Alabama Education Association Assistant Principal of the Year for the state of Alabama. While all of these were huge honors, they were all possible only because I was surrounded by such an incredible team of students, teachers, parents, and community. And these honors pale in comparison to the tremendous opportunity I have each day to do what God has called me to do and love every minute of it. I know it will be no different at ELES and for that I am grateful.
On a more personal note, I am married to Whitney Tate, and she is very much supportive of my career and has even invested in many students herself while I served at ELHS. We live in Rogersville and attend church at Clements Baptist Church. We are very much involved in the music and worship ministry and the youth ministry at church. Our desire is to make eternal investments in the lives of students and others.
I know East Lawrence Elementary is a wonderful school because I have seen the products of it in our students at ELHS. We only want to make it better and see our Eagles soar even higher. Again, it is my privilege to serve you as principal. I look forward to the 2017-2018 school year!
Proud to be an Eagle,
More about Mr. Tate
Meet the Assistant Principal -
Hello students, parents, family, and friends. My name is Mrs. Tameka Madden, and I am the Assistant Principal at East Lawrence Elementary School. I am so excited to be a part of your school community. I would like to take this opportunity to share a few things with you about myself. I am a proud native of Lawrence County. I grew up in Oakville, AL and attended Speake High School throughout my grade school years. My formal education was acquired at Calhoun Community College and Athens State University where I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. I received my first year of experience at Speake School where I taught Kindergarten. I also taught 5th grade at Moulton Middle School for 14 years. In 2008, I earned my Master's in Educational Administration from the University of North Alabama. I have thoroughly enjoyed my 15 years of teaching and learning from children. Throughout my professional experience in education, I have served in various capacities.
On a more personal note, I am a wife and mother. My husband is Scott Madden, and we have been married for 11 years. We have a son named Ian. He is 4 years old and is full of life and energy.
