East Lawrence High School Newsletter - 3.3.15

As I reflect for this newsletter, I am amazed at the versatility, skills, and talent of our students.  For example, in just one weekend last month, our Boys' Basketball team advanced to the Regional Finals, our Scholar's Bowl team placed 3rd in the District Tournament, two of our Band students participated in the Auburn University Band Festival, and our AP Calculus class departed for Disney World to participate in a unique educational experience.  Did you follow all of that?  Or take for instance just this past weekend. While our Baseball team played a very tough Sheffield squad in the cold weather, our Softball team conducted a clinic for the youth league, giving back to the Eagle community.  And in Birmingham, our Scholar's Bowl team captured the #5 ranking in the State.  And you can rest assured our students are succeeding inside the walls of the classroom as well.  There's evidence of that throughout this newsletter.  So go ahead and catch a glimpse of how our Eagles at ELHS are soaring!  Thanks to everyone for your support!

Proud to be an Eagle,

Mr. Tate

Data Dive at ELHS

Some will tell you that data is dead in a High School.  But we at ELHS believe no such statement, and we are proving it.  This year we are looking at two major chunks of data. First of all, our entire Junior class took an ACT Mock exam last semester.  Mrs. Hall and Mr. Tate then sat down with each student and conducted a data meeting to discuss their results and where the students feel they should focus for our upcoming ACT Blitz.  Stay tuned for details about the blitz.  A reward was also given for Juniors who benchmarked on the ACT Mock Exam.  Our next set of data comes from the Global Scholar online testing program.  All 9th and 10th graders take this test three times a year to monitor progress toward their achievement of State Standards in Reading and Math.  After our winter testing in January, teachers sat down with students to discuss their results and the progress toward their goals for mid-year and end-of-year.  A reward was also give for the students who met their goals. Take a look at the pictures below from our Data Dive at ELHS.
