https://tackk.com/ecv77j

Dear 1st Grade Teachers,

The purpose of this tackk board is to provide a place for teachers to find ELA curriculum support materials. The items below support the student outcomes for each unit. As a community of teachers, we are continuing to grow our collection of videos, anchor charts, links to websites and much much more. It is my hope you find this collection for resources helpful and supportive in planning your language arts lessons.

Sincerely,

Laura Adlis

Different Purposes for Texts

Identifying the reason why an author wrote a text is more than just PIE (persuade, inform, entertain). Ask students to write a simple sentence such as:  "Gail Gibbons wrote this book to teach me facts about the moon." or "Dr Seuss wrote this book to tell the story of a guy who didn’t like to try green eggs and ham but he found out he liked them."
This is the beginning of theme or message work, but in first grade we won't necessarily call it that.
