Note how the humid continental climate extends farther to the south through Virginia and North Carolina. What does this signify, and how would you explain it?

The humid continental climate extends farther to the south through Virginia and North Carolina because the closer each state gets to the equator the more humid they get. The equator is south of the United States of America so the southern states are more likely to be humid. Due to the map, the states south of Virginia and North Carolina are going to be more humid then the ones north of those states.
