Listen to Your Heart
The Novel The Great Gatsby would not have been possible if not for the love story of Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan. The end of the novel could have had a completely different outcome however, had Daisy not made the naive decision to marry someone who was appropriate for her, and not marry the one she truly loves. The message behind their love story is to listen to your heart; not the people around you. Daisy never really wanted to marry Tom and proves it by destroying the extremely expensive pearl necklace he gave her to wear at their wedding. She goes through with the wedding anyway because she let the people around her convince her that marrying Tom was the right thing to do. She let fear of absent security ruin her chance of happiness. The lesson of The Great Gatsby is to always listen to your heart.
