# Comparing Estimates

## Is the population of Denmark known to people?

In order to find out if people are aware of the population of Denmark I made a survey asking 25 people if they know what the population of Denmark is. I asked them to estimate the number of people living in Denmark in case they did not know for sure.

I will show the result of the survey in this presentation, but I can already here mention that the number of people living in Denmark is not well known.

Down below you will see two pictures of the survey. The first picture it shows the name, age, estimate of the population in Denmark, the exact population of Denmark, and if it is to low. In the second picture is shows the name of the person and if their estimate was too low or too high.

My Survey

Here are 5 pictures of the some people that estimated the population of Denmark.

This is Claire she is 12 years old. Her estimate for the population in Denmark was 7 million. Her estimate was too high.

This is Anna.T she is 11 years old. Her estimate for the population of Denmark was 5.7 million. Her estimate was a little bit too high.

This is Hannah she is 11 years old. Her estimate for the population of Denmark was 8 million. Her estimate was too high.

This is Vicky she is 11 years old. Her estimate for the population of Denmark was 2 million that was way too low.

This is Aenne she is 11 years old. Her estimate for the population in Denmark was 15 million. Her estimate was way too high.

Do people tend to estimate too high or too low?

A total of 56 percent estimated a too high number and 44 percent a too low. 6 people or 24 percent actually estimated a number within plus/minus 3 percent of the real population of Denmark. Half of these are Danish and you should assume they know the population of their own country.

Why are some of the estimates too high?

I think that maybe because some of the people that thought that the population of Denmark was a really high population maybe they didn't really know how many people there live in Denmark and they don't really know how big the country Denmark is. Maybe it also has to do with how old they are. Maybe it has to do that many of the people in the survey come from bigger countries and can't imagine such a small country.

Why are some of the estimates too low?

I think that maybe because the people that estimated to low for the population of Denmark maybe thought that because Denmark is a small country there might not be that big la population.

Who was the person that got the closest to the real population of Denmark?

The closest person that estimated the population of Denmark was my dad.

Why did my dad get the closest estimate?

I think that because he got the closest answer to the real answer of the population of Denmark is because he comes from Denmark and he is an adult and he is older so he knows the real population of Denmark.

Conclusion

People that come from Denmark know the population of Denmark quite well. People from other countries mostly don't know the population of Denmark and many of these people are even estimating way off the real population. Denmark needs to do more in order to be better known in the world and it seems that the fact that Hans Christian Andersen ("Little Mermaid" and "The Ugly Duckling") as well as Lego comes from Denmark is not enough.
