Imagery in White Fang

Dark spruce forest frowned on either side the frozen water – way. The trees had been stripped by a recent wind of their white covering of frost, and they seemed to lean toward each other, black and ominous, in the fading light. A vast silence reigned over the land. The land itself was a desolation, lifeless, without movement, so lone and cold that the spirit of it was not even that of sadness. There was a hint in it of laughter, but of a laughter more terrible than any sadness - a laughter that was mirthless as the smile of the Sphinx, a laughter cold as the frost and partaking of the grimness of infallibility.

He kept the fire brightly blazing, for he knew that it alone intervened between the flesh of his body and their hungry fangs.  His two dogs stayed close by him, one on either side, leaning against him for protection, crying and whimpering, and at times snarling desperately when a wold approached a little closer than usual.  at such moments, when his dogs snarled, the whole circle would be agitated, the wolves coming to their feet and pressing tentatively forward, a chorus of snarls and eager yelps rising about him.  Then the circle would lie down again, and here and there a wolf would resume its broken nap.

Now that the terrible unknown had let go of him, he forgot that the unknown had any terrors.  He was aware only of the curiosity in all the things about him.  He inspected the grass beneath him, the moss - berry plant just beyond, and the dead trunk of the blasted pine that stood on the edge of an open space among the trees.  A squirrel, running around the base of a trunk, came full upon him, and gave him a great fright.  He cowered down and snarled.  But the squirrel was as badly scared.  It ran up a tree, and from a point of safety chattered back savagely.

Once, the cub sprang in and sank his teeth into the hind leg of the lynx.  He clung on, growling savagely.  Though he did not know it, by the weight of his body, he clogged the action of the leg and thereby saved his mother much damage.  A change in the battle crushed him under both their bodies and wrenched loose his hold.  The next moment, the two mothers separated, and, before they rushed together again, the lynx lashed out at the cub with a huge fore - paw that ripped his shoulder open to the bone and sent him hurtling sideways against the wall.  Then was added to the fight lasted so long that he had time to cry himself out and to experience a second burst of courage; and the end of the battle again found him clinging to a hind leg and furiously growling between his teeth.

It was this last that especially affected him.  The elevation of frames of poles caught his eye; yet this in itself was not so remarkable, being done by the same creatures that flung sticks and stones to great distances.  But when the frames of poles were made into teepees, by being covered with cloth and skins, White Fang was astounded.  It was the colossal bulk of them that impressed him.  They arose around him, on every side, like some monstrous quick - growing form of life.  They occupied nearly the whole circumference of his field of vision.  He was afraid of them.  They loomed ominously above him; and when the breeze stirred them into huge movements, he cowered down in fear, keeping his eyes warily upon them, and prepared to spring away if they attempted to precipitate themselves upon him.

I loved all of your imagery examples!! I think that all of your photos were very appropriate for your imagery examples. I could see why you choose all of your imagery examples because they were unique and not used by many students. My favorite paragraph was the 4th one because it had excellent imagery and I could almost imagine the scene in my head. Great job overall!!
