Here is a pic of Downer College.
In march 1854 a college for young people was created. The college was called Downer University. The college was accepted for girls. A man named Thomas G. Eggleston held a contract to build it at a cost of $6,000 on a 5 acre plot of land in the heart of Fox lake. It cost $80.00 to live at the college. There was fuel and a stove in each room. In 1866 Jason Downer gave $9,500 out of the $12,000 needed for a new building to be added. This included housing a chapel and several classrooms. The college was moved to Milwaukee in 1895.
