Section 1
The Growth of Industrial Prosperity

The Second Industrial Revolution

  • There was a second industrial revolution in the late 1800’s that caused a huge explosion in wealth and new technology.
  • One key invention was a new way of mass producing steel. This allowed for the invention of smaller more powerful machines as well as longer bridges and taller buildings

Factories became more productive and more mechanized in the late 1800's.

New ways of mass producing steel allowed cities to grow in new ways and led to a radical new generation of technology.

Organizing the Working Classes

  • Bad living & working conditions led to the rise of labor unions and other organizations that aimed to improve the lives of the working class in industrial cities.
  • Radical new ideas about society from people like Karl Marx challenged the established order of the world economy.

Karl Marx was famous for many reasons, but I personally love his beard the most. Just look at that Beard, Just look at it. In a word: epic.
