Milan Institute of Cosmetology, Cosmetology

I want to go to this institute because I've heard many great things about it. It's a great way to learn basics, but also learn advanced. Milan focuses on students and makes sure they learn everything they need to and if someone needs help they will make sure to stay and help you until you understand how to do it. Milan is a great institute because they want to make sure you succeed in everything you do.

This institute was founded in 1985 and is family owned. It teaches students in beauty, health, business and massage therapy. This institute has many programs such as Manicurist/Nail Technologist, Massage Therapy, Cosmetology, Dental Assistant-Registered Dental Assistant, and more. They have many locations such as California, Nevada, and Texas. The main campus is in San Antonio, Texas. Milan Institute is a great way to become a cosmetologist not far from home. Milan institute students can practice doing hair, makeup, and nails on people at a low cost.

To get into the Milan Institute you have to be 18 years old, and you have to have a GED or a high school diploma. When you are ready to attend you go to the admissions office, they sign you up, they give you a tour and then you're ready to go.

Campus Life/ Information

*Milan institute is family owned for over 27 years.

*Students learn by hands-on training and are taught by experienced, qualified instructors.

*Milan institute has over 25,000 students that have graduated.

*It is usually 50 weeks until you can graduate.

I want to become a cosmetologist when I'm older. Right now I'm leaning towards just being a makeup artist but I think in the future that will change. The reason why I'm saying that will change is because in cosmetology you study everything. Everything in cosmetology is nails, makeup, and hair and they'll teach you how to do that. Right now I'm not the best in nails and hair, but with the help in high school and the help at Milan I think that will change.

Eventually after I get my certification in cosmetology I want to start my own business. I'll start small, but I hope to gradually get bigger. The most important thing to me is having a career in cosmetology even if it's a little place that rarely gets customers it'll still make me happy because I get to do what I love. I've been working on my skills since about 7th grade and I hope to put those skills to work.

The more education you have in cosmetology, the more experience you have and where you are working all determine how much you get paid.

*In New York the minimum wage for cosmetologists is about 11 to 12 dollars an hour while here in Texas it is about 9 dollars an hour.

*The more experience you have can determine how much money you make. If you have more experience you will be making 16 to 20 dollars an hour.

*I plan to move to New York and there I will be making about $55,000 to about $65,000 per year but if I choose to stay here in El Paso I will be making $28,000 to $29,000 per year.

*All you need to become a cosmetologist is a certification you get when you graduate.

Interview with Christina Miller

Christina Miller is a graduate from Milan. She currently works at a hair salon in California. Before she got into cosmetology she said she didn't care about school and didn't know what she wanted to do in the future. She would always be late to class or be absent, until she found out she wanted to be a hair stylist. She graduated high school then went to Milan to get more education. She said that while at Milan she thought she knew everything until the instructors taught her many things she didn't know. Her best advice to people getting into cosmetology is to work hard, don't become over-confident and just to have fun.
