W.C. Handy

The art work represents the rhythm pattern and emotion that was heard in the song St.Louis Blues

W.C. Handy was born in 1875 and died in 1958. He grew up living in a log cabin he lived with his mother and father but his father was a minister. The young boy worked lots of odd jobs saving money to buy a guitar but once he had enough money to buy it his father wouldn't not let him keep it. The boys father always thought that a guitar is the devils plaything. So he made him take it back right away in exchange for the big dictionary. the young child loved school the only time he was the happiest was when he was in singing class. One day the town offered to sell William a battered old cornet for $1.75 he couldn't say no. This time his father was furious but William loved making music it was something he had to do.

The blues are usually sad but often have a little funny thought follows a pattern it has flatted or slurred notes. Jazz musicians use it for improvisation but Handy was the first person to write the blues. But no one knows when the blues first originated but it was sung south in the rural areas in the 1890’s. it began to form in 1910 his popularity grew greatly with publication of Memphis blues. In 1912 Handy wrote St.Louis blues. I think Handy has a lot to do with the blues he was the first person to make them up. But that is just my opinion so people might not like him but I do. I will love to listen to his music I will listen to it all day. learning about W.C Handy was fun it was a lot of work but it was fun. I think Handy is one of the best musician ever lived.
