The Space Race
Who: USSR and US
What: Trying to have the best space flight capability. They were trying to get the best space equipment and to get to space first.
When: It lasted from 1955 to 1972, 17 years. Although, the Space Race can be related to Germany, starting in 1930 when they built missiles with a goal for the missiles to reach high altitudes and travel long distances.
Where: Space. Yuri Gagarin was the first person in space, and Neil Armstrong was the first person on the moon.
Why: During the World War 2, General Dornberger lead the army's rocket program, and 2 others lead the team that built the Aggregate-4 (A-4) rocket, which became the first vehicle to reach outer space during its test flight in 1942 and 1943.
The USSR and US competed to get the best space flight capability. It lasted for 17 years, 1955 to 1972, but may be related to when Geramany built missiles to reach high altitudes and long distances.
