Who I am....

Hello! My name is Samantha Julien. I am a Junior at Florida International University, and I am working on attaining a Bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education. Due to my busy schedule as a working Mother, I am currently enrolled in the fully online Bachelor Degree Program. A few years ago I attained an Associate degree in Early Childhood Education at Broward College. I was the Treasurer of The Education and Technology club (Phi Delta Alpha), and graduated from Broward College with Honors. I am currently employed at a Broward County Elementary School as a Paraprofessional in a Pre-K ESE classroom.

My Family

This is My Maternal Grandma. She raised me until I was ten years old. My Grandma was my first teacher. She laid the foundation during my early childhood years, for the individual I am now, and will continue to become. She instilled great values within me such as perseverance, kindness, empathy, and selflessness.  She is one of the most influential human beings in my life. I love her with all that I am.

These are my two children, Makeda and Mekhi. They have inspired and motivated me to pursue my purpose in Life. I was their first teacher, and it is an honor that I am proud to behold. They have also taught me, and loved me unconditionally. They have truly increased my being on this Earth. For that I am thankful. Being a Mother is challenging, but I do the best I can. It is the most purposeful job in the world. I love my children with all that I am.

My Culture

I was born on the small but beautiful Island of Grenada. The people are warm, loving, and strong. English is the official language, however in casual settings, we speak a broken English dialect similar to Patios. Like many other people from the Caribbean, I am an embodiment of deep history and rich culture. I am proud of my West Indian, African, and European roots. I feel truly blessed to have such an exotic combination of cultures. Here are some pictures of Grenada.

A Few of my Favorite Things...

This is my favorite place to spend time. My children and I spend a lot of time at the beach. Here is a video I captured a few months ago around sundown on Hollywood Beach. Please make sure the volume is turned up. The sounds are just as glorious as the view. Enjoy!

I love to read to learn. I am most interested in books about spirituality, Education, health and wellness, and self growth. This is the best book ever!!

Sorry that the book looks so old and beat up. I have only read it a thousand times lol

I love to bake Banana Bread for my friends and family. They request my banana bread for all special occasions such as Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Hmm, maybe I will open my own Banana bread company one day.

My Purpose

My life has led me on the path of  a career in Education. When I was about 18 years old a man stopped me in a store and told me that I would be surrounded by children for most of my life. I really didn't think anything of his words, except that maybe he was crazy. Today I am watching that prediction manifest right before my eyes. I love learning from, and teaching children. I chose Early childhood Education because I believe that the foundations of who we will become are set within those early years of life. Whether I decide o teach or open my own Preschool within the next few years, I hope to inspire children that will grow up to not only reach their fullest potential, but collaborate with each other and help change the world

My focus as a teacher, would not only be on academics, but on building character in young children. I think that character is so important for progress and betterment in the world. You could have a world full of intelligent people but that world may be filled with chaos, hatred, poverty, social injustice, and war due to a lack of good character. We can do better as human beings. Through Multicultural Education, Transformative Education, and fostering habits of the mind, we can improve the quality of life for all. My mission as a teacher is a humanitarian one, and I take it very seriously.  Education is the key for betterment for all.
