Cuneiform was invented in 3,500 - 3,000 B.C.E.

It has the earliest known documents in Cuneiform that were written by the Sumerians of Southern Mesopotamia.

The Ancient Sumerians kept documents of everything so it made it easier for people to study them.

They did not have any paper or pens so they used a stylus (reed pen used for writing on wet clay) they used clay tablets to write and draw pictures.

Cuneiform is not easy to read today since through time the meaning of some of the symbols changed as language changed.
