LGBT Support and Exchange Group
Project Lambda is a support and exchange group for the young LGBT (Lesbian, Gay Bisexual, Transsexual) people. This organisation is based at the 1575 Amherst Street. It is easily accessed; the metro station Berri-UQAM is 5 minutes walk far from it. At the Project, the goal is to create a friendly and respectful atmosphere for youg people of any orientation between 14 and 25 years old. Everyone is welcomed there and is encouraged to tell their story and share their feelings.
There is a meeting every Friday night between 7:00 and 9:00 pm. This is a typical schedual:
1) Some volunteers and animators are there from 6:30 pm. They welcome you and if you are new, they tell you how does the meeting work and what are the rules. Basically, every paticipant needs to act with respect with its mates and don't judge them.
2)There is a discusion group where different subjects are discussed. They are related to the society, the orientation and everyone's experience. There is an animator who guides the discussion. If you prefer to play games or talk, there is a living room where the people can do social activities.
3)A snack is provided by Project Lambda for everyone. Also, if you want, you can make a money contribution for the quality of the place.
4)At 9:00, the meeting is finished, but there are always some friendly people for hanging out and have some coffee.
The people's comments are really positive. They like to meet people like them and don't feel juged. Some of them really struggle while facing the people's insults or having no one really understanding them. These few hours Friday are extremely important for some of them. They also appreciate some adventures in the Gay Village and some special treaats for Easter or Christmas.
Project Lambda does a great job in increasing youn LGBT people's life quality. They really make a difference. There is a truly friendly atmosphere there and is really nice to get to know all these courageous people.
