Ionic Bonds

Ionic bonding is a type of chemical bonding that occurs due to electrical attraction between cations and anions.

-Compounds with ionic bonds have higher differences in the electronegativities of the bonded atoms.

-The numbers of positive and negative charges in an ionic bond are equal.

-Substances with ionic bonds:

    Are usually granular or powdery

Conductive when liquid or dissolved in water

Usually have higher melting points (cannot be melted with Bunsen burner)

    Are usually soluble in water
