witty, guarded, spirited
Beatrice was motivated by the love of and loyalty to her family. Beatrice wanted to help her cousin, Hero, find love since that is what Hero wanted for herself. Beatrice was also very protective of her cousin Hero. Even when Benedick asked Beatrice, "bid me do anything for thee" and she responded, "kill Claudio", it was because she loved her cousin so much and wanted the person who shamed her to be punished.
Beatrice changes throughout the movie in her desire to marry. In the beginning of the movie Beatrice does not believe that marriage will ever be for her, but she is fine with marriage for others. At the point when the prince and others are trying to get Beatrice and Benedick together, she overhears them saying that Benedick is in love with her, she starts to have a change of heart. Beatrice is heard saying, "Contempt farewell, and maiden pride adieu. No glory lives behind the back of such. And Benedick, love on, I will requite thee, taming my wild heart to your loving hand..." Eventually both Benedick and Beatrice admit that they love each other and wish to marry. Even though Beatrice is stubborn, she finally admits to Benedick, "I love you with so much of my heart that none is left to protest".
Beatrice is intelligent, opinionated, and out spoken. Beatrice is powerful in that people respect and seek her opinion on many matters. When Beatrice gives her opinions, people listen to her and take her advice, or want to do as she desires. This is seen in her interactions with her cousin Hero, and her advice on love, or on how to proceed after being humiliated. This is also seen in her conversation with the prince about love, or even in her interactions with Benedick, especially once she has won his heart.
