About Father Elias Lorenzo
A native of Brooklyn, New York, Father Elias Lorenzo initiated his religious career at an early age. He attended Don Bosco College and earned a bachelor of arts in philosophy. Upon graduation from St. John’s University with a master’s degree in liturgical theology, Father Elias Lorenzo completed a graduate degree in counseling psychology at Seton Hall University. He finished his formal education at The Catholic University of America, where he received a licentiate in canon law.
Father Lorenzo joined St. Mary's Abbey and became a Benedictine monk. He was then ordained by Bishop Rodimer. In his time at St. Mary’s Abbey, he served as rector of the church, prior of the monastery, and director of liturgy. He also served for more than 10 years as chairman of the Paterson Diocesan Liturgical Commission. In addition to his work at St. Mary’s Abbey, he maintains affiliation with a number of religious institutions, including the Monastic Liturgy Forum, the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions, and the Canon Law Society of America.
