SOCIAL STUDIES: COMMON EXAM REVIEW
Democracy- Any form of government in which political power is exercised by all citizens, either directly or through their elected representatives.
Direct Democracy- All citizens can create public policy if they want to, there are no representatives in government: The citizens vote on everything, All citizens participate in government. Example: In ancient Athens, Greece, they held assemblies where citizens voted to pass laws.
Representative Democracy- Like direct democracy, all citizens participate in government, People elect representatives who vote on laws for the citizens, Representatives answer to the people through regular elections. An example would be the United States.
Monarchy- A monarchy is a form of government in which it is ruled by one person such as a king or queen. An example would be England.
Dictatorship- dictatorship power is not inherited, but however it is taken by force. An example would be Hitler with him taking over Germany.
Theocracy- a system of government of when priest rule in the name of God. An example would be Afghanistan.
Oligarchy- when a small group of people ruling a country or group. An example would be China.
Anarchy- a form of government in which there is no government. An example would be Somalia.
Communism- this is a form of socialism. An example would be China.
