Utilitarianism

Main Points:

- the doctrine is determined not by the rightness or wrongness of actions, but of the goodness or badness of their consequences

- the ends do justify the means if the moral gains are greater than the moral losses

- the best moral acts yield the greatest amount of happiness and least amount of suffering from the greatest amount of people

- utilitarianism is what the group of people believe is right

Sunride- The Ends Justify the Means

Some say I'm deceiving. They don't know the reasons for my ways

More precious than fortune and fame is the one that I'm aiming for

Some beg for forgiveness. I have never been down on my knees

Everything they say you obey and everything they ask you to do you will do

It's inside me, can't find it in you

It is in everything I do

What's said and done is justified

All for me and me for myself

It's the thing that makes this all go 'round

The end justifies the means

No need to point the finger. I already know who takes the blame

I was caught red-handed and fair but there's none to feel sorry for

It's late but I move on. I can hear the end calling out my name

Everything they say you obey and everything they ask you to do you will do

It's inside me, can't find it in youIt is in everything I do

What's said and done is justified

All for me and me for myself

It's the thing that makes this all go 'round

The end justifies the means(I stand up for me - I don't see no one else around - I can't see)

What personal, life orienting core commitments are consistent with thus world view? This world view believes that it doesn't matter what you do to reach your goals. This can be life orienting because if you believe in this it can change your life because you can do things that you would t if you believed in other world views.

How do we know what is right and wrong? In utilitarianism there is no right or wrong. The only thing that is right in this world view is to reach your goals and your life purpose. It doesn't matter what you do ( right or wrong) as long as you get there.

What happens at death? Utilitarians believe that people should be able to control their death if they so happen want to take it themselves. They believe that if life in miserable for you and there is no hope to have it get better than it is ok to take your like
