Genius Hour- Autism

Autism is a complex disorder of brain development. No one knows why it happens but it is characterized with difficulties in social interactions, verbal and non verbal communication, and repetitive behaviors. There are many levels of autism. It goes from mild to severe

I read a book called Cruise Control by Terry Trueman.

In the book, Paul is a senior in high school with a brother who is severely autistic. He I read a book called Cruise Control by Terry Trueman.

In the book, Paul is a senior in high school with a brother who is mentally challenged. He has seizures and is unable to walk, talk, or feed himself. He is explained, by his brother, as a vegetable.

This relates to me in a way because my cousin, Zach, is badly autistic. He is the same age as I am and has a sister that is a year younger than him. Zach and Kamryn go to the same school and although Kamryn is a year younger than him, she can still see his struggles throughout the day. Kamryn is very protective over Zach, just like Paul is for Shawn. She had to (and still is) learn how to handle those situations where he was being picked on. She does very well with treating him like a brother and talking to him even when she knows he cannot reply back.
