Under the direction of Greg Snyder, Lakota West Symphonic Winds will return to perform at the 2015 Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) state convention. The ensemble will perform Saturday, February 7, for representatives from many of the 612 public school districts and 51 colleges and universities in Ohio. The group was also invited to perform in 2004.

Symphonic Winds has earned a superior rating at Class AA OMEA state competition since 1990. Snyder also leads two Class A concert bands to superior ratings each year.

Symphonic Winds, under Snyder’s leadership, has garnered three invitations (a first for Ohio) to the world-renowned Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic. The Midwest Clinic is the leading instrumental music conference in the country. Top awards were also earned at the Dixie Classic Music Festivals in Chattanooga and Atlanta.

The convention will be held February 5-7 in the new Cleveland Convention Center, Cleveland, Ohio. OMEA is the third largest of the 52 federated state affiliates of NAfME, the National Association for Music Education. OMEA members are involved at all levels of music education, serving more than 1.8 million public school students in Ohio. The mission of OMEA is to advance music education by encouraging the study and making of music by all.
