Dr. Filipe Espinheira Teaches Veterinary Ophthalmology at Cornell
A diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO), Dr. Filipe Espinheira serves as an assistant professor of veterinary ophthalmology for the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in Ithaca, New York. Dr. Filipe Espinheira instructs veterinary ophthalmologists-in-training for evaluation, clinical management, and surgical treatment of a range of ocular conditions as they occur in all types of animals, including dogs, cats, horses, birds, and snakes, among others.
Prior to joining Cornell, Dr. Espinheira served as an assistant professor of veterinary ophthalmology at Louisiana State University. Among his international clinical experience, he has worked as an associate small animal veterinarian at Areosa Veterinary Clinic in Porto, Portugal, and as a relief veterinarian for Manor Veterinary Centre in Birmingham, England. He completed a small animal rotating internship at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine and a comparative ophthalmology residency at the University of Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.
Contributing to research in his field, Dr. Filipe Espinheira has coauthored articles featured in the scholarly publications Veterinary Ophthalmology and the Journal of Exotic Pet Medicine. He has also served as a panelist for the Student American Veterinary Medical Association Symposium and presented at conferences of the ACVO and European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists.
Beyond professional endeavors, Mr. Espinheira enjoys outdoor activities, such as hiking, cross-country skiing, bicycling, running, and scuba diving. A native of Porto, he remains a fervent supporter of the local Futebol Clube do Porto professional soccer team.
