Climate and weather- Dry and Rainy (during the rainy season the temperature can range from 70 to 90 degrees fahrenheit) (the rainy season is from May to November and the dry season is from October to March, sometimes April)
Water- when rain comes (15-25 in.) (In the dry season the Savannah only gets about 4 in.)
Carrying capacity is the limit of how many individual organisms an ecosystem can support. Carrying capacity is based on available resources. For a population to survive they need water, food, shelter, and space.
- In the Savannah, there are forest fires. If the fire starts where a population of animals are, then that species could burn to death. When that species dies then it's predators can't eat and will starve, that species will eventually die off as well.
Leopards really only have one predator. That would be humans, but if there was a drought because the rain didn't supply as much water, as it normally does, then the leopards would die. Causing Humans hunt them anymore, if this happens.
Producer- organisms that make their own food through photosynthesis (Candelabra Tree, Jackalberry Tree, Jarrah Tree, etc)
Consumer- organisms that don't make their own food; they feed on other organisms (elephant, zebra, giraffe, etc)
Decomposer- organisms that break down wastes and dead organisms and return the nutrients back to the environment (fungi,termites, bacteria,etc)
The producers are the most important part of the ecosystem because they are the food to the other organisms. If you didn't have them;then you couldn't have any other organism.
Food chains and webs
Food webs are more realistic than food chains, because they don't follow a specific path like food chains do.
If you removed the hyenne from the Savanna, then the lions could only feed off of cheetahs, however, if they die off, then the lion would also die because they don't have food.
Energy pyramid and trophic levels
The scientist use a pyramid to show energy because at some point, the useful energy that is left won't be able to support another level.The consumers, such as, the lions, are at the top because they don't have as much energy to support them, like the ones at the bottom of the pyramid.

For photosynthesis to occur the plant needs, water, sun light, and carbon dioxide. Oxygen and glucose,a sugar, are produced during photosynthesis.The process of photosynthesis occurs in the chloroplast. The energy transformation that takes place during photosynthesis is radiant to chemical. The radiant energy is the sun's light and the chemical energy is when the plant turns the carbon dioxide into glucose and releases oxygen.
Tropism is the turning or bending movement of organisms towards or away from an external stimulus, light, heat, or gravity. In this picture it is showing geotropism. Geotropism is when gravity causes a response in plant growth. Without geotropism, the plants couldn't survive. The roots have to grow down because that's toward water sources. The branches have to grow towards the sun, because the leaves need sun to photosynthesize.
Decomposers eat the waste of other organisms With that said,if decomposers weren't around then, the the waste of other organisms would pile up,as well as the dead matter. Another reason, decomposers are important is because without them, the plants wouldn't get the essential nutrients they need to survive.
The purpose of having adaptations is so the organism can survive in harsher climates. Some types of adaptations are, thick or thin fur, no thumb or a thumb, being able to store water in your body, and having sharp teeth.
Some adaptation the animals have in the savanna are to migrate, graze, burrow, they are camouflage, and are nocturnal. If you placed these animals in a different environment they would die because they wouldn't know what to eat or what eats them.
Natural selection is adaptations that help a species survive, but will change over time. It is important for organisms to have natural selection because they are able to survive in the environment they've been placed in. The savanna is starting to change into forests because there is too much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which is causing an increase in trees. This will affect the animals because there won't be a lot of sunlight available to the animals, this is dangerous considering most of the animals in the savanna eat grass.
