Galileo Galilei

Galileo Galilei was 77 years old when he died in 1642. His nationality was Italian.  He married Marina Gamba and together they had one son and two daughters.

This is a map of his hometown in Florence Italy where he spent most of his life.

Galileo's Inventions

He discovered the first moons ever know to orbit a planet other than Earth. This planet is known as Jupitar.
He made improvements on the telescopes which helped him get a better understanding of the sky and what's out there.
Another one of his inventions was the first ever compass.

Impact on Today's World

1. He discovered the four planets that orbit Jupiter, was the first to see craters on the moon, discovered sun spots, and tracked the phases of Venus.  He was a big help to us today in the world of Astronomy.  If it weren't for him, we wouldn't be so advanced in knowing what's in the sky.

2. The telescope- His investigation of the laws of motion and improvements on the telescope helped further the understanding of the world and universe around him.
