My Safe Haven

By: Kaleb Dunsbergen

The World
It doesn't care.
Full of evil, suffering.
Savages, Vikings
Showing no pity.

Handling like you
are lifeless,
worthless,
A wasted investment.

But I,
I am strong
I
will never
fade
away.

I peek at pictures
of you,
and your family.
You have begun,
to blossom.
One day
I sense
you will forget me,
but you always
come back
for more.

Play me
like a con man
fools his victim.

Plunk my ivory and ebony
checkered keys,
or play any arrangement
of any kind.
Any style.
Anytime.

Together we will be strong.
We can challenge anything,
and conquer
everything.
Mozart,
Bach,
You name it,
we play it.

I am your refuge
from the world.
I care,
and will shield you
forever.

Reach for me
when you
weary, sorrowful,
need uplifting.
Come even when you,
are happier than a new father,
holding his first child.

I quietly wait
to be played again.

I patiently wait
for my pianists' return.
