The Mexican Flag was designed in 1821 when Mexico gained its independence from Spain. The flag has three colored stripes: red, white and green. The red represents the blood shed by Mexican heroes, and the white symbolizes the purity of the Roman Catholic religion. Green stands for hope and posterity. The coat of arms is from an Aztec legend that helped the settle on a specific location, Mexico. Even though the flag goes way back the religion and heritage is still practiced today.
Cinco De Mayo
Cinco De Mayo is the 5th day of may.It is celebrated in Mexico the U.S. and in Puebla. It celebrates the victory of Mexico beating the french forces. Many Mexicans also think of that day as a source of pride of their ethnicity. Many people confuse it with Mexican Independence day which is not even close to that day.
Las Posadas is a nine day celebration which starts on December 16th and ends on December 24th. It is supposed to be like the nine months Mary carried Jesus. It has been a tradition for 400 years. It may have started in the 16th century by friar Pedro de Gante. It could have been started by early friar who combined Spanish Catholicism wit the December Aztec celebration.
A Quinceanera is a celebration of a young girls 15th birthday. From when she turns from a girl in young women. There are many myths about a girl getting married at 15 and when she was younger she had to learn all the main thing a young women needs to know. Many believe Quinceaneras where started in the Aztec culture. Now may celebrations like this are in many countries but some take a more religious undertone.
Dia De Los Muertos
Dia de Los Muertos is also know as day of the dead. it starts on November 1st and ends on November 2nd.It is a day to honor the dead or the deceased with gifts and special prayers on the alter. The holiday is spread all over the world . And many people honor the dead in many different.
Hernando Cortez was a Spanish conquistador that caused the fall of the Aztec empire. He brought large portions of the Mainland Mexico in the early 16th century. He was apart of Spanish colonizers that led the fist phase of the Spanish colonizers of America. He was born in Medellin Spain. He wanted to live the rest of his livelihood.
He was the ninth ruler of Tenochtitlan Reining from 1502 to 1520. The first contact between Mesoamericans and Europeans was during his rein. He was killed during the Spanish conquest of Mexico. During his rein the Aztec capital was at its maximum size So he had to expand The territory. He had many wives but he only had two queens he was also a king of another city.
