I believe that the LGBT community should have the same rights as the straight/heterosexual people. It is with the help of people with a lot of influence such as celebrity that we can achieve this goal. There are a lot of celebrities who made their coming out in the past few years and they helped put awareness and respect about the LGBT community. Ellen DeGeneres, Ellen Page or Bruce Jenner are amazing role models for what they do or promote. For example, Ellen DeGeneres promotes love, respect and confidence. In fact, after every single one of her shows she says: "Be kind to one another". Ellen Page came out in a speech at the Human Rights Campaign in 2014 and told the world how amazing it feels to come out and finally be who you really are, “I suffered for years because I was scared to be out. […] And I’m standing here today, with all of you on the other side of all that pain.” That speech was really emotional and I am sure that a lot of teenagers or even adults could relate to what Ellen Page said and might have found the courage to do their coming out. The most recent celebrity who did their coming out was Bruce Jenner. In an interview with Diane Sawyer, he explained that he was actually a woman and that he had always felt that way. The 65 years old man was acclaimed by a lot of famous celebrities on Twitter such as Sam Smith, Ellen DeGeneres, Lady Gaga and the whole Kardashian family. Having that interview really opened up a conversation about that side of the LGBT community and I think him and other transgender like Laverne Cox are really brave for what they are doing. I believe that the more we talk about those amazing people and the more we show members of the LGBT community through movies and TV shows such as “Orange is The New Black” and “Glee” the more our society will be open and respectful towards them.
