The Father of Texas

Stephen F. Austin

Stephen lead to the colonization of Texas. He was born in Virginia on November 3, 1793. In 1813, at the age of 21, he was elected territorial Legislature of Missouri; he was reelected each year until 1819. After his father, Moses Austin, died in 1821 Stephen took over the plan to colonize, and bring families to Texas. To this day he is called the "Father Of Texas" because he brought over 1,200 families to Texas. At the age of 43, on December 27, 1836 disease overcame him and he died an untimely death.

Because of everything Stephen has dedicated to Texas. He now has a state university named after him. Stephen F Austin University was founded in 1923 as a teachers college.
