27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” (Matthew 26: 17-30)
The last supper is known as the last meal Jesus had with the apostles before he died. Jesus dies the next day on Friday and then rises back on Easter Sunday. Jesus breaks the bread saying it is his flesh and that the wine is his blood for the forgiveness of many sins. Jesus tells the disciples that one of them will betray him before his death. Ironically, this man is Judas, who has Jesus killed Typically about four cups of wine were given during the passover meal and they all represent expressions of redemption.
