Floods/Flash Floods!!!!!!!

Have you ever experienced a flood? Well if so this will be a review for you but if you never have you will learn many amazing things about floods and flash floods!

Floods happen when there are many days of heavy rain or snow melting and  also when bodies of water rise higher than they are supposed to.

Flooding is an overflowing of water onto land that is normally dry. Floods can happen during heavy rainfalls, when ocean waves come onto the shore, when snow melts too fast, or when dams or levees break.

Flooding could happen with only a few inches of water, or it may cover a house to the rooftop. It just depends on the flood. They can occur quickly or over a long period and may last days, weeks, or longer. Floods are the most common and widespread of all weather-related natural disasters.

Flash floods are the most dangerous kind of floods, because they combine the destructive power of a flood with incredible speed and unpredictability. Flash floods occur when excessive water fills normally dry creeks or river beds along with currently flowing creeks and rivers, causing rapid rises of water in a short amount of time.

Densely populated areas are at a higher risk for flash floods. A flash flood is sudden flooding that occurs when floodwater rise rapidly with no warning within several hours of an intense rain.

Floods happen when a warm front and when precipitation such as rain and snow is happening.

Its has to rain for a long time so there has to be a stationary front, so that the weather will stay the same. Nimbostratus clouds are the cloud type you find when you are having a flood. The storms happen when a cold front and a warm front meet. The wind speed is fast because the iso lines are closer together when a flood occurs.

Their impact on people and on a community is that they hurt people and ruin towns. 42*- 55* F is the temperature needed for a flood to happen. It has to be a low-pressure day when it floods. Heat transfers are usually neglected.

The Mississippi river flood in 1927 killed 250-1,000 people and leaving 600,000 people homeless. The Hurricane Katrina flood in 2005 happened after Hurricane Katrina because of the amount of water that came during the Hurricane. The death toll was 1,833 people.
