Big Question: Does every good love story have a happy ending?

Addy Jones

Books I read:

The Fault in Our Stars

Looking For Alaska

The Vow

Maybe Someday

TFIOS

Summary:

The Fault in Our Stars is about a young girl named Hazel. She has cancer so her mom has her attending a support group where she meets a boy named Augustus who also has cancer. Hazel and Augustus start hanging out and becoming closer, gradually falling in love and help each other out with their issues along the way. Then tragedy strikes.

How it answers the question:

Using The Fault in Our Stars, our answer would be no but that doesn't mean that you should regret it. Also Hazel and Augustus didn't get to chose to have a happy ending or not. Just because they didn't get their happy ending doesn't mean that they should regret it.

Looking For Alaska

Summary:

This book is about a boy nicknamed Pudge. He just moved onto his college campus and meets his roommate The Colonel. The Colonel then introduces Pudge to his friends, one of them being his good friend Alaska. Pudge starts to see Alaska as this amazing girl that he wants to be with but she has a boyfriend. They all hangout and become good friends and then once again tragedy strikes Pudge and his friends. They all then spend the rest of the book searching for an answer to the question they all have.

How it answers the question:

This books answers the question with another no. And like with TFIOS no one got to chose whether or not a happy ending would have gotten to have happened or not because it was out of their control, or was it?

The Vow

Summary:

This book is based on a true story. It's about a newlywed couple and the girl (Paige) gets into a car accident and loses her memory. Her husband Leo stay by her side through the whole process of what she has to go through despite the fact that she doesn't even remember him. Leo continues to hope and pray that she will be able to love him again like she used to.

How it answers the question:

This book on the other hands answers the question with a yes. It may spoil the ending for you but Paige does eventually fall back in love with Leo so even though they hit a couple rough spots they still made it through.

Maybe Someday

Summary:

This beautiful story tells about how Sydney, a young adult who was living what was a good life all to find out that her roommate/best friend has been sleeping with her boyfriend. As soon as she feels like her whole world is crashing down her deaf neighbor Ridge offers her to stay with him, his friend Warren, and Bridgette (Warrens love interest). Sydney and Ridge become closer through her helping him with his music making but then they start to like each other. This is a problem because Ridge has a girlfriend. Ridge then wants Sydney to move out because something happens and it makes Ridge feel guilty about his feelings towards Sydney. Ridge is forced to make a decision and everything turns out alright.

How it answers the question:

Maybe Someday makes an example that would support the answer yes to the big question. In the beginning Sydney has her heart broken but it eventually led to a happy ending which wouldn't have happened if she didn't move out of her apartment she was living in with her friend.

My Answer

My answer to the big question "Does every good love story have a happy ending?"

I believe that there is not a happy ending with every love story. People can go through life with someone that they love and be happy but it has to end at some point and not all endings are happy. Some endings unfortunately are caused by death for example. But just because that a love story didn't have a happy ending doesn't mean that it was not a good love story.

Sales Pitch

This book was my favorite out of the four that I chose to write about. The reason that i found this book to be my favorite is because it kept me intrigued the whole time I read it unlike how the other ones only kept my interest part of the time that I read them. I also really enjoyed the way how the author made you think that there would be no way that a good outcome could come out of some of the situations, that way when the outcome actually was good it made you appreciate it even more. The love story is fantastic as well, it shows how you can't settle for what makes you comfortable, but that you have to take risks and yes you may go through some rough spots but in the end it will be worth it.
