The Memory Keeper's Daughter- Kim Edwards

From wikipedia

On a winter night in 1964, a blizzard forces Dr. David Henry to deliver his own twins. His son, born first, was a perfectly healthy child. His daughter; however, has down syndrome and Dr. Henry immediately realized it. For what he thought were good motives, he makes a decision to tell his wife that their daughter died and gave the baby to his nurse, Caroline, to take her away to an institution. When Caroline reached the institution she decided that it is no condition for a baby to be in so she ended up raising the child as her own and moving away. This decision ends up haunting all their lives, his, his wife’s, and his son’s.

"He'd keep his silence because his own secrets were darker, more hidden, and because he believed that his secret has created hers" (194).

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves reading drama filled books. This book is easy to understand and is fast paced keeping you from getting distracted with other things. This is a shocking and powerful piece of literature that creates a bond with the characters when you read it. Although the book may seem a bit thick, as soon as you get into it, you'll finish it in no time. I ended up finishing it a whole week before the due date and I'm not even a big reader.
