After reading about 30 chapters in the book. It's easy to see that Bethany is showing interest in Tyler. Now, whether or not it's real or just her wanting him for his body instead of for his personality. Isn't clear just yet. She acts as if she wants to date Tyler, and like she truly likes him. Yet we can't say if she's being honest. She also acts flirty towards a few other guys. So does she truly like him? Who knows.

Contrasts & Contradictions
When Tyler and Bethany go to the party. Bethany ends up getting drunk, really drunk. This leads into Tyler having to follow her around the party for a while trying to make sure she doesn't get hurt. Bethany eventually coaxes Tyler into coming upstairs. Once inside a bedroom upstairs, Bethany starts to come onto Tyler. His initial thought is to go along with it, this is what he's dreamed of for so long, but he doesn't. He's not that kind of a person, he can't take advantage of someone like that. Even though he's dying to do it with her, he stops. She gets angry and storms out. This goes against Tyler character so far. Up until this point he's seemed oh so ready to do anything with her, but then we see the real Tyler. He isn't some jerk who's going to take the situation and run with it.

Near the ending of the book, something very concerning and tense happens. Tyler has been contemplating running away, but now he's moved to an entirely different level. Suicide, Tyler talks about how he thought about it a lot in Middle School. The reason why he never went through with it is because he always found something to motivate him, to keep him going. Now however, his situations looking grim. He's being accused of taking lewd photos of Bethany. Even though he didn't. His father's constantly mad at him, he's being attacked in school, and was even mugged walking home. In his eyes, suicide becomes the clear answer. However, he once again doesn't go through with it. Instead he formulates a plan to show him family how wrong and ignorant to his grief they truly are. The ending of the book is one that I have a love/hate relationship with. Yet, the book was still amazing!
