Nicolaus Copernicus was a famous astronomer during the Renaissance time. He was born February 19, 1473 and died May 24, 1543 at the age of 70.
Copernicus was born in Torun, Poland, he also continued to live in Poland for much of his life.
Copernicus is described as being intellectual, honest, generous, and imaginative.
The Heliocentric Theory
His major contribution was when he discovered that contrary to everyone else's beliefs, the Earth is not the center of the universe, the sun actually is.
De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium
Nicolaus wrote a book explaining his theory that was published during the year he passed away, even though he had arrived at his theory several decades earlier.
Impact On Today's World
Currently, the everyone in world knows Copernicus' theory that the Sun is the center of the universe.
Also in his book, Copernicus came up with a theory that the orbits around the sun were not perfect which explains why the planets range in size throughout the year.
