Access to help
There are many centers across Canada that provides help with eating disorders. Many of them are not available in every province in Canada. Two of them are and their main goal is to decrease the number of sick people associated with eating disorder. First of all, there is the National Eating Disorder Information Center (NEDIC) based in Toronto, this center provides help mostly for anorexia victims all around the country. They Develop and disseminate information and resources on eating disorders, food and weight preoccupation. Also, this organisation has a staff line that is available from 9am to 9pm to give information about eating disorders and related issues. In addition to all this, this center has an Eating Disorder Awareness Week; this event has the mission to put the spotlight on the seriousness of eating disorders and to improve public understanding of their causes. This event takes place in the first week of February annually!
Further to this, there is the Canadian Mental Help Association, a nation-wide, voluntary organization. The Canadian Mental Health Association promotes the mental health of all and supports the resilience and recovery of people experiencing mental illness. This association has the goal to facilitate access to the resources people require to maintain and improve mental health. For example, they find a nearby institution for someone in need. The Canadian Mental Health Association is one of the oldest continuing voluntary health organizations in Canada, this means that all the staff is volunteer and all the money they get to finance they events or activities is given by the public as a donation to the foundation. Since this organisation is a non-profitable one, their objective is not to get rich, but help the society.
