Ethan Allen Boat Accident
On a warm afternoon last October at Lake George, N.Y., a group of 47 retirees from Michigan and Ohio climbed-some with the assistance of walkers-aboard the 38-ft. tour boat Ethan Allen. It was one of the last stops on a week-long fall foliage trip, and many passengers opted for port-side benches, where the sun streamed beneath a wooden roof through open windows.
Twenty passengers died. The accident caused government regulators to consider new laws on passenger boat capacity.
