Narcolepsy is a chronic brain disorder where you suffer from poor sleep wake cycles and fall asleep unwillingly from a couple seconds to a couple minutes. Both male and females can develop Narcolepsy. Symptoms start in your your childhood and are lifelong. Narcolepsy is not a rare disease. Around 250,000 Americans have it but we can't help thinking the guy who just fell asleep while riding his bike is a little strange.

While doctors know what Narcolepsy is, they are not sure what causes it. They do know that there is a malfunction in the way your brain controls your sleeping and waking states. Most doctors think that there is a problem with your brains neurotransmitters which transmit signals across a synapses from one neuron to another. They also know that the random episodes of sleep occur mostly after meals. People normally get diagnosed around 15 to 25 years old.
