Alfred Nobel was the fourth kid of eight in his family. When he was four years old his father moved to Sweden to work on manufacturing explosives. his family moved with him later, in 1842. Alfred did not go to school. He had private tutors instead. Alfred Nobel mastered chemistry and learned alot of new languages. In all he could speak English, French, Russian, German, and Swedish.

After the war Alfred and his family moved back to Sweden. Alfred began studying explosives. When he was 29 an explosion in his factory killed his brother Emil and four other people. Alfred was very affected by this and made a safer explosive called dynamite.
in 1888 Alfred's brother Ludvig died. A french newspaper mistook Ludvig's death for Alfred's! The newspaper showed disrespect and showed that they did not appreciate that he invented dynamite. Alfred was disappointed and sad about how he was going to be remembered. Alfred decided to invent the Nobel Prizes to reward people for important accomplishments.
Alfred Nobel died on December 10th 1896 in San Remo, Italy because of a stroke. He left about 250 million US dollars to help fund the Nobel Prize. Alfred Nobel finally got the respect he was looking for thanks to the Nobel Prize. He left his vast fortune just for one invention, and I think it was worth it!
