This link talks about how the Chinese language is far different than the US language and how it is hard for them to go there and understand.

This video isn't about asian language but it shows the importance of being able to speak different languages to invoke yourself with different groups of people. In Asia say you speak Chinese and you want to visit India, well you won't understand what they're saying to you. If your an Asian author and you want to broaden the amount of readers you have you'd have to translate your material in a way that many others will understand.
