What is it?

STUDYBLUE is a free mobile iOS app that provides users with various studying tools to help assist memorization and help with standardized testing. Users are able to create flashcards, browse flashcards available in an archive on a variety of subjects and test themselves to see how well they do on the content. Students can make their tests and flashcards time-sensitive to assist with memorization.

Use in a K-12 Setting

STUDYBLUE can be introduced to students in order to help them prepare for knowledge-recall assessments. For example, this app would be a fantastic tool for secondary-level students that are trying to memorize important figures, terms and definitions for a Social Studies examination.


Blackboard Mobile Learn

What is it?

Blackboard Mobile Learn is a free iOS app for schools that make use of the popular Learning Management System: Blackboard. Through this app, students can access their courses on Blackboard and contribute to discussions, view announcements, content and grades, attach files from dropbox or even take mobile-friendly tests.

Use in a K-12 Setting

For institutions that make use of Blackboard, this app will allow students to keep up and contribute with their coursework on the go. It allows for learning to take place anytime and anywhere. For example, a student could contribute to an online discussion through this app while they were away from home.

ScreenChomp

ScreenChomp is a brilliant tool for teachers to give students supplemental material and explanations for subject matter outside of the classroom. The ability to post shareable links to peers and the instructor also allows for collaboration among students and more interaction opportunities between teachers and students when they are outside of the classroom.

What is it?

Popplet is an iOS app that allows users to create mind maps. Users can help to convey more complicated ideas by drawing visual connections between several aspects of the topic through the use of these mind maps.

Use in a K-12 Setting

Popplet would be a very useful tool for visual learners that are struggling to make sense of large concepts. For example, a Social Studies Teacher could help students struggling with Political Ideologies by having them visually organize details and aspects of different ideologies in a mind map.

Khan Academy

What is it?

Khan Academy is a large and useful learning resource that helps users of all ages to increase their knowledge on a wide variety of subjects. Users may assess themselves through the app, which will adjust difficulty and recommend exercises (depending on the subject) to tailor a personal learning experience. It is available online and through android and iOS devices.

Use in a K-12 Setting

Khan Academy is an excellent supplemental resource for students who need additional challenge or just a personalized approach to learning different subject matter. A teacher could make use of Khan Academy in a variety of ways in various grade levels. One example would be to assign supplemental exercises to extend student knowledge on a subject.
