Heather and Zachary

Wedding Date: October 23  Photography: Sarah Duncklee Photography

Tell us a little about you and your beloved: We are both in an American Sign Language Interpreter Program and both train at a Brazilian martial art called Capoeira. We were together only ten months when we got engaged and seven months later we were married! Since our wedding day we have enjoyed traveling the world together — we have gone to Ireland, Texas, Florida, The Bahamas, San Francisco and will spend this summer in Alaska, L.A., Texas, Arkansas and Brazil! We plan to continue our travels until our school programs are finished.

What was the most amazing part of your day? We did a part of our vows in American Sign Language. Not many people in attendance understood that part of our vows but it meant a lot to us since it was a language that we learned (and are still learning) together.

What else would you like to share about your big day? During the reception we had a pool table, darts, a cartoonist, dancing, a movie theater and bar so there was something to do for everyone!

Any other of your wedding vendor(s) you’d like to call out?  The bride’s grandfather Hon. Judge Gerald Bakarich performed the services.

Any advice you’d give to our readers who are planning their weddings right now?  The planning was so stressful up to the moment our coordinator told me it was starting.  I was still worried that there may have been so many loose ends that I couldn’t get to that I should have focused on, but everything was perfect!  All of the little things that you worry about will come together.  Let everything go once your big day starts and enjoy every minute of it!

Anything that you would have done differently if you were given the chance?  Really insist on more assistance from others.  Most of the planning was done by the bride alone, and looking back the experience would have been much smoother if we had given a few tasks to other people to take some of the stress off of the bride.  To be blunt (because at this time you should) don’t ask for assistance, just assign it.
