What is NATO?

Well its originally called north Atlantic treaty organization (NATO) currently has 28 member countries as their allies since 1949. NATO is a security defense organization to protect themselves and their allies from the Soviet Union throughout the United States and Western Europe.

NATO membership is open to “any other European state in a position to further the principles of this treaty and to contribute to the security of the north Atlantic area.”

The organization constitutes a system, of collective defense whereby its member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party. The course if the cold war let to rivalry with nations of the Warsaw pact so that is why NATO was created.

The United States and 11 other nations establish the north Atlantic treaty organization (NATO), a mutual defense pact aimed at containing possible soviet aggression against Western Europe. NATO stood as the main U.S –led military alliance against the Soviet Union through the duration of the cold war.

what is Warsaw?

In May 1955, the “treaty of mutual friendship, co-operation and mutual assistance” was signed between the People’s Republic of Albania, the People’s Republic of Bulgaria, the Hungarian People’s Republic, the German Democratic Republic, the Polish People’s Republic, the Romanian People’s Republic, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, and the Czechoslovak Republic. It was the Communist counteraction to NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization).

The Warsaw Pact remained intact until 1991. (Albania withdraw in 1962) basically Warsaw began to minimize the threat of invasion from Western Europe.
